When I was elected to the Gorge Parish council in May 2011 one of the first issues I raised at a parish meeting was the lack of a postbox in the village.
I wrote on my personal blog in October 2010 about the response I had from Royal Mail about the “infrequent and haphazard” approach to daily postal deliveries.
Getting the post into the village isn’t as much of an issue over two years on. Getting the post out of the village, however, does seem to be a little more troublesome. The response from Royal Mail was that there weren’t enough residents to trigger the installation of the Post Box. Since May 2011 more houses and residents have been added to the village.
I’ve just spoken to Royal Mail and they have advised me to write to the Tweedale Delivery office to make a case for a post box. Here’s where the lovely residents of the village can help:
I need your stories about how having a post box in the village would help. I know that residents in Bournville House have said to me that a post box close to where they live would be beneficial.
Feel free to add your stories in the comments below, grab me when you see me around the village or email me:

Obviously, I’ll keep the residents association, the parish council and the blog up to date with how I get on.
I’ve created a petition for residents to sign to show their support for this campaign. Please encourage people to sign the petition.
The Lightmoor Village Post Box has been installed and is now operational! http://lightmoorlife.wordpress.com/2012/05/16/post-box-now-open-in-the-village-centre/
